Hydro MicroScreen™ Launch Delivers Exceptional Low Power Wastewater Treatment

Hydro International is launching its low-energy, small footprint rotating belt screen, the Hydro MicroScreen™ for the UK Municipal Wastewater industry. The Hydro MicroScreen™ can save operators up to 50% in power use and has only one tenth of the footprint of conventional primary clarifiers.

Water utilities today need to meet discharge regulations whilst at the same time reducing operating costs, particularly those for maintenance. With a focus on Totex during AMP6, Water Companies must look for wastewater equipment to meet objectives in power and maintenance costs.

Energy costs are one of the biggest expenses that wastewater treatment plants. Conventional technologies such as settling tanks or clarifiers require mechanical processes that are energy-intensive. Combining low operational energy use of between 2.5 and 7 hp and reduced downstream energy demand on aeration, sludge wasting, processing and hauling, Hydro MicroScreen™ provides energy savings of up to 50% compared to conventional primary treatment technologies. Additionally, Hydro MicroScreen™ is a small, accessible unit that can be maintained quickly and easily – minimising maintenance costs and reducing costly system downtime.

With a range of screen mesh sizes, Hydro MicroScreen™ removes contaminants from wastewater with exceptional effectiveness – reducing loading on downstream processes and improving overall treatment effectiveness. Capturing TSS, BOD, COD, FOG and even particulate phosphorus right at the start of the treatment train, Hydro MicroScreen™ removes damaging pollutants early and makes it easier for municipal plants to discharge environmentally compliant effluent.

Hydro MicroScreen™ is ideal for fine screening, primary clarification and dewatering primary-secondary sludge blends. It can provide primary treatment to septage and oil and grease receiving stations. For smaller plants (<90 l/s (320 m3/hr)) the device can provide combined fine screening and grit removal in one process.
